Clinical Pilates
Working as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist since 2011, I have delved into exercise based therapy and seen it’s benefits for overall patient health and wellbeing. I am currently offering exercise/clinical pilates classes at our clinic in Bowral. These classes will be a combination of my knowledge of yoga, pilates, strength and conditioning training with a focus on injury and condition management. My training is in the DMA (Dance Medicine Australia) clinical pilates method which is based on the original pilates method designed by Joseph Pilates, that is injury/condition based. I have run pilates/exercise classes for adults and children and have found that small groups work well for patients. In addition, I integrate other exercise based treatment approaches and as such it is an exercise class using pilates and resistance equipment.
A little about our classes
They will be run on an ongoing basis as the need arises
2 people for 30min sessions
You can attend more than one class per week if there is availability
The patient books in a preferred scheduled class prior, first in best dressed
The class will consist of primarily equipment based exercise including pilates reformer, Trapeze, Wu Chair, along with strength training with weights, cables, body resistance work, use of mat and balls.
There will be no manual therapy or taping as part of the exercise classes
You will have exercises which you will be familiar with and reviewed on an ongoing basis
I will add on new session times as interest arises
What needs to be done first
Book a one-on-one session with myself to put together an exercise plan and to have a practice session in the studio. You’ll need to contact the clinic directly to book with me (Samantha).
I will seek out patient handovers with Andy for his patients
Book an appointment with me for an initial session which will take 45mins at the cost of $155
After your session with me I’ll book you in, and you can book in advance if you’d like
Things to consider
it is a commitment to come to classes when booked and failure to attend affects the ability of us to offer this service
If you are unable to attend a class due to cases of illness or emergency, please let us know as soon as possible, repeated failure to attend sessions will result in a fee
Check with your private health fund if they cover exercise classes
It is a shared exercise class and I will float between patients, but there needs to be a certain degree of independence in the classes
It is advisable to be reviewed with your treating therapist either throughout or at an allocated date
These classes are complimentary to the treatment you are already receiving with the therapist and are part of your treatment, ongoing monitoring with your therapist is recommended
What to bring
towel
bottle of water
wear comfortable clothing and socks
a mask if you wish (please respect those who continue to wear a mask)
Your constructive feedback and participation in our classes enables us to improve on our service provision. We will be seeking feedback quarterly that will further inform how we provide our classes and you’ll be invited to conduct a small survey.
Any further questions give us a shout. I look forward to seeing you all.
Sam
