Making time for you…

Given that it is the end of the year 2022, I decided to write more of an opinion piece this week rather than something relating to injuries/conditions.

2022 has certainly come with it’s challenges for many of us, the ongoing pandemic, the rising cost of living, and too much rain/climate change, just to name a few. I know plenty of people who are glad to be seeing the end of this year and struggling as Christmas draws ever closer.

Time for self-care is something that has increasingly been discussed in the media and also in patient consults I’ve noticed, which amounts to small things such as going for that walk at the end of the day, having a sit down with a cup of tea or finding time for your exercises. Perhaps with the pandemic, the spotlight on people’s general mental health has received more attention, which in my view is not a bad thing at all. But it also means here is something else we all have to work on right?

With the holiday season upon us, some may find that they are lucky enough to be spending time away on holidays, with friends and family, and then some of us will be finding it tough and dreading the season because they are alone, or feeling overwhelmed by the responsibility of hosting or making a Merry Christmas for everyone. Whatever situation you find yourself in remember that by taking care of yourself you are looking after those around you as well. As a mum of two little kids I have to remind myself that what’s good for me is good for my children, and we all deserve a Merry Christmas.

So from Andy and I, we hope you enjoy this season despite it’s challenges, and find some peace in the small things even if it’s just that cup of coffee first thing in the morning.
